If your toilet bowl water level looks too high, too low, or doesn’t clear properly when you flush, you might be able to adjust it. In many Denver-area homes, the issue starts inside the tank. A properly working toilet should have: • Bowl water high enough to cover the drain opening • Tank water about 1 inch below the top of the overflow tube If the bowl isn’t refilling correctly, start by checking the tank water level. Adjusting the float on the fill valve can raise or lower how much water enters the tank during each flush. Other common causes of toilet water level problems include: • A worn or misaligned flapper • A faulty fill valve or float • Partial clogs in the drain line • Venting issues affecting pressure Sudden changes in toilet bowl water level often point to a clog or blockage rather than a simple adjustment issue. Done Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electric has been helping Denver, Aurora, and Front Range homeowners with toilet repairs and drain issues since 1999. If your toilet water level won’t stabilize, we’ll diagnose the cause and fix it safely.
